After The Rain

What is the difference in rain and dew.....I shared some pictures of things with dew on them not to long ago.  I think dew is collected from the moisture in the air, where rain is that collected moisture that falls from the sky.  People probably never even consider that.  I told you I was a curious, perhaps strange thinking photographer!  I am always looking for those perfect opportunities to take some unusual pictures.  Enjoy my rainy day photos.

What fun.  Grab that camera and try your hand at those unusual pictures.  Nature is there for the capturing!

After Frost

Being a curious photographer, I noticed how things change after frost has had its way.  Colors change and things are burned and turn brown on the edges.  It is mother nature's way of putting her plants into their winter slumber.  I was at our mountain house and got some nice photos of my hydrangeas that have been touched by frost.  They were quite beautiful.  Of course beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

                                                              Beautyberry Bush

I also got some great mushroom pictures.

Things That I Write

Some could say I am a dreamer.....artists have a way of seeing the world through different eyes.  We are different.  We see the heart, the soul, the depth of life. I am drawn to nature and feel an intimate connection to it.  Enjoy some of the things I have written about.

                                                           Turn Your Eyes

What is it that whispers to only you..."turn, look, and see this"  As I was in the front yard, bending down to hook up a water hose, that whisper came to me.  I stood and turned to look to the side of our house.  Out of the darkness of the shaded woods came a gentle whirling breeze down the graveled corridor of our driveway.  Caught in this breeze were some small golden leaves dancing in the air as if to say, "this dancing scene is especially for you!"  Tears came to my eyes.  Thank you for my special moment.

                                                          The Circle of Life

While walking outside on a fall day....what wonderful things caught my eye.  Oh how I wished for my camera.  The sides of the road were alive with the fluttering of butterflies.  They were all over the pink flower of "Joe Pye Weed".  What a picture.  One particular Swallowtail butterfly had become caught in a spider's web.  My first impulse was to try to free the fragile creature, frantically flapping its wings, trying to pull away.  But as I stepped closer the spider had already raced down its web to inject its paralyzing venom into its victim.  The butterfly became still.  There was a certain sadness, but still there was that realization of the circle of life.

Here She Comes

She comes without an invitation...Here she comes, waving her arms stretched out so far and her skirts billowing around her.  When she speaks, her breath causes the trees to sway as if they are only the grasses along her footpath.  She causes the leaves to fall and chase after her.  Her sweet kiss upon your cheek will cause you to long for more.  She is always one step ahead, moving  through these mountain coves.  She has many miles to go spreading her cooling touch.  Yes, here she comes and her name is Fall.  Welcome!

I'm Not Afraid

There is a rustling in the leaves when the wind comes blowing down the lane.  Jack Frost is not far behind...it's almost Halloween!  I pull the covers up over my head and repeat, "I'm not afraid."  No, I'm not afraid of witches, ghosts and goblins of lore.  Another noise, close your eyes and don't dare scream!  As the morning light filters into my room, I realize that I must have been dreaming.  Listen...there is that rustling in the leaves and the wind is blowing down the lane.  It's almost Halloween and I'm not afraid......Boo!

Old Man Winter

Why do I think of winter as an old man?  I see a man with a white flowing beard.  He is dressed in heavy burlap and fur, with leaves stuck here and there.  He carries a staff and a lantern as he journeys through the land.  He leaves behind the cold winds and the frosts of winter.  He causes the trees and plants to fall into a deep sleep.  Even the animals build a warm nest and sleep right along with everything else.  The bleakness of winter is art for the eye.  You cannot count all of the bare branches in the trees.  It shows how complex and intricate it all is.  To some people winter represents death, but really it is only nature at rest.  Nature resting for in a few months there will will be that miracle of newness and awakening.

Spring

A daffodil here, a forsythia bush blooming there.  Trillium popping up in the woods with one sweet bud ready to burst open.  The trees, barely blushing with their new leaf buds.  There is a sweetness in the air.  An excitement of the promise of what is to come.  New life emerging.  I saw a mother squirrel with her baby in her mouth, scampering up a tree, back to the safety of their nest.  "Too soon baby'" she scolds!  The birds are working frantically with bits and pieces of anything they can find to build a nest.  They know that soon they will be laying and hatching their eggs.  With the warmth of spring comes the hum of the bees and the flutter of butterflies.  Wake Up Nature!  Spring Is Here!

What Could I Do

If I could......
I would send the angels to watch over you...
May those snowy white angel wings silently flutter around you.
May you feel their cool breeze on your face;
So sweet, so soft, dry those tears.
Perhaps they are the breath of God himself.
He did promise to never leave us in our time of need.
Look to heaven, bathe in the glow, heal your soul.
When the time comes, go with those snowy white angel wings
to that heavenly shore never to hurt anymore.
And when that mist rises from the mountain valley to the sky,
I will feel those angel wings fluttering all around and know that
You are near!

Dreams

What does dreaming feel like?
Is it answering a distant call?
A light in the distance?
A door leading to memories?
I can close my eyes and see.
Watch those white clouds sail
and the river's water dance
over the stones.
Where do they all go?
Far beyond what we can see.
this walk of life....
A heart full of dreams...
Wait for me!

The Hope In My Life

I am in the autumn season of my life.
I have looked forward to this time.
What a journey of storms and sunny days,
changing daily, trying not to be afraid.
From my pale green of birth and youth,
to my forest green of mid-life dear.
And now in my glory of orange yellow,  and red,
the end I know is near.
A slow release, a floating down upon a gentle breeze...
whirling in the sun-kissed air to fall on the ground.
Back into the earth, from where I came, only
to be alive and resurrected again.
For this is the life of my belief in God.
That life is eternal and you will never die, if only
you believe in the sacrificing death of our Jesus Christ.
There in lies the hope in my life!

The Quilt

When I think of a quilt...
I think about the loving hands
that cut, arranged, and sewed the fabric
of each little piece.
Each piece has been a story in itself.
The shirt of a dad or grand-dad as
he went about work with no fear,
to a blouse or a dress of a mom or
grandmother dear.
How many tears and joys have they seen.
When I think of a quilt and
the warmth it brings....
That love just envelopes me and
makes me smile.

I hope you have related to some of my writing.  They come from the heart.  Try writing some of your thoughts down.  You can't go wrong.

Dewy and Foggy Morning

When I looked out the window this morning......I said,  "Great and grabbed my camera."  Now some may be scratching their head, but for me it was a great photo opportunity to capture what Mother Nature had created over night.  Enjoy!

Now do you see what I see?  Have eyes to see and soak in the beauty of the day!
